Why Audiobooks are Great for Kids!
The audiobook industry for children’s books is growing, and for good reason! Great narrators can bring a story to life and create an immersive experience for readers. Here are a few reasons why audiobooks are a great addition to any kid’s library.
Interest—Let’s face it, it can be hard to get some kids interested in reading. With a great narrator and sound effects, audiobooks can quickly grab interest and have a reader absorbed into the story right away.
Imagination—Listening to a book will help develop a child’s imagination because they have to create visuals of scenes, settings, and characters in their minds as they follow along.
Vocabulary—Kids can listen to audiobooks above their reading level, which helps to expand their vocabulary and hear new words used in context. Reading the book alongside listening to the audio will help children learn pronunciation, how and why certain punctuation is used, and proper emphasis, all of which help with both speaking and writing skills.
Consume more books—Audiobooks offer a way for readers to consume more stories than they may have been able to before. They are perfect for driving in the car, doing chores around the house, or even just closing your eyes to relax and calm emotions.
Looking for a place to start? Most libraries have audiobook CDs and/or audiobooks on their Libby app, which you can use right on your phone (I just listened to the Percy Jackson series on there!). You can also find tons of great audiobooks on YouTube, Audible, or Spotify.
